Skin Care Made Simple

Darker skin tones absorb more radiation than lighter skin tones. For this reason it is recommended to exfoliate less aggressively but more frequent. Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), Glycolic, Retinol or Lactic Acids are ideal ingredients to exfoliate dark skin. They remove dead skin cells, and they are less irritating to ethnic skin than rough, harsh scrubs. Scrubs or overuse of mechanical facial brushes can cause irritation that can become pigmentation.  When exfoliating the skin a sun screen product is required to protect the new skin and prevent pigmentation or further damage.

Start with a cleanser that has the ingredients that will compliment your dark skin.  The Exfoliating Cleanser is formulated with alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that will begin the daily exfoliation process.  If you want to get more aggressive you can use the Renewal Gel. This product is a 10% non-neutralized, non-buffered Glycolic Gel. It can be used with a Q-tip to spot treat acne or blackheads. The Renewal gel can also be used as a mask to exfoliate the entire face. Squeeze a small amount of Renewal Gel onto fingertips and apply all over face. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. When starting to use this product test on a patch of skin to test your sensitivity. General time for Dry Skin is 15 to 30 minutes and Oily Skin is 30 to 45 minutes. Rinse off with water and dry. The renewal Gel can be applied two to three times a week. Eventually your skin will build a tolerance and you will be able to wear overnight. Remember to apply sun protection daily.
