Skin Cancer Awareness Tips

May is skin cancer month. As much as we all love being outside and soaking up the sun, you must be cautious of sun exposure. According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), sun exposure is the most preventable risk factor in skin cancer.

Sunscreen, screenings and shade are your friend! If you’re developing sun spots, freckles or moles know your ABCD’s and visit your dermatologist:

A= Asymmetry - uneven shape not equal round

B= Border - Irregularity or irregular, poorly defined margins

C= Color - difference in colors from brown, red, white, blue or black.

D= Diameter - greater than 6 millimeters, about 1/4 inch.

Pay attention to your skin, it’s showing you the signs. There are an arsenal of tools for preventing skin cancer and is up to you to be aware and take responsibility for you and your loved ones.
