UVA and UVB damage diagram

UVA-UVB diagram with abella skin care logo

The misleading advice that your makeup has enough SPF to protect your skin needs to be addressed. According to the FDA a sun protection product is required to have a SPF of 30 or higher. Only broad spectrum products give you complete protection for UVA and UVB rays. You are wasting time and money on anti-wrinkle and fading creams if you are not applying daily sun protection. We suggest blending your makeup with sunscreen or apply our ColorShade SPF 35 for the perfect blend of color and protection.  #abellaskincare #sunprotection #spf #fda #mua

Self-Tanner Tips during the Winter Season

February 3rd, 2015

abella skin care self tanner

While being stuck at home feeling pale and bored during the winter we know people go for their self-tanners to fake the summer glow. The common complaints with self-tanners are the streaks and blotches left after the application.  Abella Skin Care has a protocol to help you get more even and optimal results.

Before applying any self-tanner remember to exfoliate the skin. Try showering with the Exfoliating Cleanser, (avoid sensitive areas) which contains Alpha Hydroxy Acid and Aloe. Specially formulated with skin renewing Hydroxy Acid that removes dead skin cells for an even application and greater absorbency. For those stubborn areas like elbows or knees try using the Renewal Gel 10% glycolic for one hour before self-tanning. Once the entire process is complete remember you still have to protect your skin from the sun. Try the ColorShade SPF 35 available in four convenient shades of Light/Medium/Dark/Ebony.

Maca abella skin care

The Abella Skin Care staff loves to indulge when it comes to food.  We share with our blog followers the foods that stand out in taste and provide your body with vitamins and nutrients.  This blog is for the coffee and energy drink lovers. As the holidays are behind our sweet tooth craving are still here and we found a healthy alternative to satisfy your need for sweets it’s called Maca. Maca is a root vegetable from the radish family grown in the mountains of Peru. Peruvian’s have been grinding Maca into a powder and using as a supplement or ingredient. The locals call it “Peruvian Ginseng”.

Benefits include:

1. Vitamins
Maca is rich in vitamin B vitamins, C, and E. It provides plenty of calcium, zinc, iron, magnesium, phosphorous and amino acids.

2. Sexual function
Maca is widely used to promote sexual function of both men and women. It serves as a boost to your libido and increases endurance. At the same time it balances your hormones and increases fertility.

3. Women’s health and mood
Maca relieves menstrual issues and menopause. It alleviates cramps, body pain, hot flashes, anxiety, mood swings, and depression. If you are pregnant or lactating you should avoid taking maca.
4. Energy
Within days of using maca your energy level may increase. It is also known for increasing stamia and some athletes take maca for peak performance. If you find yourself tired most of the time, experiment with maca to see if it helps. Just a small amount could be exactly what you need for a boost!

5. General health
Maca helps your overall health in a number of ways. It supplies iron and helps restore red blood cells, which aids anemia and cardiovascular diseases. Maca keeps your bones and teeth healthy and allows you to heal from wounds more quickly. When used in conjunction with a good workout regime you will notice an increase in muscle mass.

6. Skin
Many people take maca for skin issues, as for some people it helps to clear acne and blemishes. Another benefit for your skin is that is decreases sensitivity. In hot or cold weather, maca may help your skin withstand extreme temperatures.

7. Mood balance

Health Benefits of Pumpkin

October 24th, 2014

pumpkin abella skin care

It is finally pumpkin season and we have a few reasons why you should indulge in this seasonal treat. Pumpkins are rich in carotenoids, the compounds that give them their bright orange color, including beta-carotene, which the body converts into Vitamin A. Vitamin C and Vitamin A are key for good vision and a healthy immune system.  The antioxidant beta-carotene is also consumed to prevent certain cancers due to its free radical neutralizing qualities. The free radical fighters also fight wrinkles and nourish the skin.

Pumpkins are a great source of fiber and are often eaten in fiber rich diets. When consumed pumpkin makes you feel full for longer on few calories. Oh did we forget to mention they are also delicious. Check out our Pinterest board called Comida for some pumpkin recipes you can make at home.
