A Common myth about SPF is the higher the SPF values the higher risks of skin irritation.

This statement is misleading. Recently a growing trend of facial products offer an SPF value such as foundation, BB Cream, moisturizer and many others in addition to your daily sunscreen. Take a look at the label and identify key ingredients. Are the ingredients in your sun protection products physical or chemical? Chemical ingredients such as Avobenzone, Oxybenzone, Homosalate, ParsolĀ  1789, which are absorbed into the skin and cause irritation. Physical ingredients, such as Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide, act as an umbrella to reflect and scatter solar rays. Physical agents lay on top of the skin and are not absorbed, avoiding irritation. Consumers need to be aware of the ingredients they put on their skin as it absorbs into the body. This year the FDA has set new regulations on sun protection claims and consumers should be aware and proactive during their purchases.
